Gas permeable contact lenses are rigid lenses made of durable plastics that allow oxygen to pass through the lens. These lenses also are called GP lenses, rigid gas permeable lenses, RGP lenses and oxygen permeable lenses.
Most gas permeable lens materials include silicone, which makes GP lenses more flexible than PMMA hard contacts. And silicone allows oxygen to pass directly through GP lenses to keep the cornea healthy without having to rely solely on oxygen-containing tears to be pumped under the lens with each blink.
In fact, modern rigid gas permeable contacts allow more oxygen to reach the cornea than most soft contact lenses (although some silicone hydrogel soft lenses are comparable to GP lenses in oxygen transmission).
Contact Lenses are increasingly becoming more and more popular with the estimated 75% of people who need some form of vision correction.
Their increased popularity may be due to the improvements in lens design technology over the years. Contact Lenses are now safer, more comfortable, and more convenient than ever before. With improved water content, lenses can be worn for longer without making the eyes feel dry or uncomfortable.
It is now possible to correct astigmatism (where eyes are more rugby-ball shaped), and presbyopia (where distance- and near-vision requires different correction) with Contact Lenses, meaning that they are available to more and more people every day.
There are many different Contact Lenses available, and our Optometrists have the equipment and the experience to find the lens that works best for you.
We offer monthly payment schemes starting from £10 per month (10 pairs of daily lenses per month). Our schemes are designed to work around your lens usage requirements, and are competitively priced.
There are a number of benefits to our contact lens schemes, including:
Although our monthly payment scheme is preferred by many of our patients, should you wish to pay for your lenses as and when you need simply talk to one of our staff who can discuss your options with you.
